Why a Skating Party Works So Well in Canton
Michigan winters make backyard birthday parties a gamble, and nobody wants a dozen kids tracking slush through the living room. A skating party at Skatin Station 2 fixes both problems. You bring the guest list, we bring the skates, the floor and a party host, and you get to enjoy the day instead of running it. Here’s how to plan a party step by step, whether it’s a birthday, a scout outing, a team get-together or a school night.
1. Pick the Party That Fits
We offer several ways to celebrate. Prices are current as of this writing, so please confirm on our Parties page when you’re ready to book.
Party Options at a Glance:
- Roller Skating Package: $249.95 (before tax) for up to 10 people. Includes admission, your choice of rental, two whole cheese pizzas served buffet style, two pitchers of pop, an ice cream cup, decorative paper products, a 1-hour reserved table, a free pass for a future skating session for each guest, a turn on the Spin-To-Win Wheel for the birthday child, and a friendly party host who is shared with other parties. Additional guests are $19.95 each.
- Private Smaller Parties: $850 to rent the rink exclusively. Includes a private 2-hour session, admission for up to 50 people, 7 whole pizzas and 8 pitchers of pop, roller skate or rollerblade rental if needed, and a host to help with your party. Additional guests are $12 each, and an extra hour is $250 if available. A $200 deposit is required.
- Private Parties and Fundraisers: The facility is reserved just for you and your guests, with day, evening and late-night options. Staff are provided to supervise, and the snack bar stays open for purchases. A non-refundable deposit and signed agreement are required, so call for available dates.
- Public Group Rates: For groups of 15 or more, regular skate rental is included. Groups of 25 or more get rental included plus $1 off the session price. These rates are for public sessions only.
- School Events: We work closely with your PTO or PTA to help create a fun night for students and families.
2. Choose a Date and Time
Parties are booked in advance, so reach out early if you have a specific day in mind. Our weekly schedule lists Monday through Friday as “Call for Private Parties,” and the smaller private parties and fundraisers depend on available dates. Call us at (734) 459-6400 and we’ll find a time that works for your group.
3. Count Your Guests
Your guest count decides which option makes the most sense. Ten kids or fewer? The Roller Skating Package is a great fit. Closer to 50? A private smaller party gives you the whole rink. Larger groups can look at private parties and fundraisers or public group rates.
A couple of things that help your budget: adult spectators (18 and older) who aren’t skating don’t pay admission to be in the building, so grandparents and parents can watch from the sidelines. And remember to count younger children who may want to skate with a parent.
4. Plan the Food and Cake
Here’s the one rule to know: cake and party supplies may only be brought into the building when a party is booked. No outside food or drinks otherwise. You’re welcome to bring your own cake to your booked party.
The packages include pizza and pop, and you can add more:
- Bowl of popcorn: $5
- Cheese or pepperoni pizza: $16 for 8 slices
- Breadsticks (30 count with pizza sauce): $31.95
- Stuff Shop Dollars: $4 (a $5 value)
For private parties and group rates, food packages are available too. Ask us when you call.
5. Get Skates Sorted
Rental skates are included in our party packages, so guests don’t need to bring their own. If you have first-time skaters in the group, our staff can help with sizing, and a Skate Mate ($5, limited supply) can give extra balance support. New to the rink? Our guides to your first skate and skating with little ones are good reads to share with your guests.
6. Make Party Day Run Smoothly
- Pick a point person who can greet guests, handle the cake and keep an eye on the clock.
- Send a quick note to guests with the date, time, address (8611 Ronda Dr., Canton) and a reminder to wear comfortable clothes and socks that fit well.
- Arrive a little early so you can set up the cake and supplies without rushing.
- Download the guest list form from the Private Parties and Fundraisers page if you’re booking a private party.
- Bring a camera. Wobbly first laps are worth keeping.
A Few Common Worries
“What if some guests have never skated?” That’s completely normal. Rentals and our party host help get everyone rolling, and kids who catch the bug can sign up for our 5-week beginner lessons.
“What if not everyone wants to skate?” Adult spectators can watch for free, and there’s plenty of room to cheer from the sidelines.
“Can we bring our own cake?” Yes, when a party is booked.
